The Cure for Cancer

If someone found the cure for cancer, they would be acclaimed as the greatest hero of our times.  And rightly so.  But the cure for cancer wouldn’t actually “save” life, it would only “extend” life.  With or without cancer, we will all eventually meet our Maker.  Hey, are you ready for that day?  Will you be glad to meet Him or sad to meet Him?  The choice is up to you.

In the world; not of the world

Twice in the Gospels, Jesus id called the friend OF sinners. But notice that He is not called a friend WITH sinners. There is a big difference. And we are called, as Christians, to be in the world, but not of the world. It’s sort of like the boat that has to be in the water to fulfill its purpose, but the water can’t be in the boat without disastrous results. Christians are to be the light of the world. But we must be on guard. We are on dangerous ground - we are on enemy ground. We must walk carefully and walk according to the orders of Jesus Christ. “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15, 16

Steamy Shower

I got up this morning and took a shower to get clean for church.  But I forgot to turn on the bathroom fan before I got in, and when I stepped out of the shower, steam had filled the bathroom.  I dried off, opened the door, and began to use the door as a giant fan to get the vapor out so I could see a little.  Within moments, the steam had cleared, and I could continue to get ready for church.  But then I paused again.  I thought of James 4:14, “… For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”  How true!  It seems like only yesterday that I was in high school.  And that was 55 years ago!  Hey, don’t laugh at me.  You’ll turn around twice and your life will be over - your life here on earth, that is.  But you will live forever somewhere.  The question is, where will that somewhere be?  Think about it before your brief life is over.  That vapor lasts for such a very short time.  Really.

Granddaddy's Old

My wife and daughter-in-law had a yard sale Saturday and we were cleaning up.  My job was to take the folding tables back to church and dispose of the left-over boxes of yard sale items.  I asked my six-year-old grandson and his five-year-old cousin if they wanted to go with me.  Of course, they did.  Who wouldn’t want to ride in the pick-up with Granddaddy?  I told them that I was old, and they would have to help me.  They both assured me that they would help.  And then the discussion began.  Conley said that she missed her Pop Pop.  That was her grandfather.  She said, “I wish I could see Pop Pop again, but he’s gone to heaven.”  Greyson, the more mature six-year-old Said, “Well Pop Pop died because he was old, and old people die, you know.”  Conley and Greyson looked at each other for a moment and then both of them looked at me.  I knew what they were thinking.  Greyson said, “Well, Granddaddy, you are getting old and you will probably die soon.”  Conley, wanting to encourage me, said, “But at least you will go to heaven and you can visit with Pop Pop.”  Then they both were quiet and thought some more.  Actually, the five-year-old and the six-year-old just about had the puzzle of life figured out.  Their child-like simplicity was refreshing.  So, I thought, “See you soon, Pop Pop, see you soon.”
