Poison ivy, a snarling dog, and a roaring lion: very different levels of trouble, danger, or destruction. Poison ivy can be trouble, a snarling dog can mean danger, but a roaring lion can devour you. Peter wisely says in I Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” So, what is our defense? Simple. The previous verse has the answer, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” Hey, look to Jesus the “lion tamer”. Jesus can do what you cannot do: Jesus can defeat Satan. Stay close to the good Lord today and you will be safe from that Old Lion. After all, it’s a good plan to stay close to Jesus anyway.
