Acts 27:13,14 And
when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their
purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete. But not long after there
arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon. After the ship left
port, it didn’t take long before the weather turned ugly. But it was too late to
turn back! The sailors fought the wind and the strong currents as long as they
could. The captain ordered them to let the sails go free and just go with the
storm wherever it would take them. It must have been scary onboard that tiny
ship bobbing around in the sea! So that the ship could float better, the
sailors threw overboard everything that wasn’t absolutely necessary. The next
day, they wrapped huge ropes around the middle of the ship so that it wouldn’t
break apart. Then on the third day, they threw overboard all of the sails, ropes,
and pulleys. But none of this helped! Paul told them that they had made a big
mistake. Duh! They all knew that! But Paul went on to say that God had promised
him that no one would lose their life in the storm. However, the ship would be
lost. They were battered by the storm for almost two weeks before land
appeared. What would happen? Would they survive like Paul had promised?
Tomorrow we’ll find out.
