OK, so I’m getting to be an old man. And with old age comes old-age problems, one of which is insomnia. My wife and I were commiserating this morning. Two nights earlier, she tossed and turned all night. She just couldn’t get to sleep. And when she did, it was only for an hour and she was awake again. And yesterday, she got a nap for an hour, but that didn’t begin to make up for the seven hours that she had missed the night before. Anyway, last night she slept like a baby. But the reason she slept well was because she didn’t sleep well the night before. We realized that BECAUSE we have a bad night, THEN we have a good night. We have a difficult day and then we enjoy a good day. That’s the way life is. We endure the bad which makes us appreciate the good. How would we know that we are having a good day if we didn’t have a bad day to compare it to?! But make no mistake, God is there with us in the good and He is also right there with us in the bad. God delights in the good times and He is there holding our hand in the bad times. The apostle Peter knew good times with Jesus by the sea of Galilee and Peter knew bad times by the fire the night before Jesus was crucified. And Peter said in I Peter 5:7, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” Hey, did you get that?! Jesus cares about you! Don’t forget it! Jesus - the Creator and Sustainer of the universe - cares about you! So, any bad day that you have, any bad night that you have, Jesus is right there with you. Relax and rest; He’s right there.
