John D. Rockefeller was asked by a reporter, “How much money is enough?” He responded, “Just a little bit more.” But Rockefeller was a multimillionaire! He had plenty of money! But Rockefeller’s answer revealed the fatal flaw in the human heart. And that flaw is greed. If we have $50,000, we will want $75,000. If we have $75,000, we want $100,000. We want “Just a little more.” Hey, in Philippians 4:19, God has promised to meet “all of our needs.” The problem is not having more; the problem is being content with what we do have. Solomon said in Proverbs 30:8&9, “… give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.” Solomon put his finger on the heart of the problem: our relationship with God. If we have too much, we won’t need God. If we have too little, we will steal from others and disregard God’s law against stealing. Solomon said that we need just enough. Sort of like the story of Goldilocks: Not too little; not too much, but just right. Hey, God has given you just the right amount of money. He will meet your needs with the money that you have. The key is to trust God. He gives you exactly what you need. No more; no less.
