Ephesians 6:5-8
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh,
with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with
eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of
God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to
men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he
receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. Today we usually don’t
have servants, but we do have employees. But back in Paul’s day, there were
hired workers, servants, and slaves. But whether you were a free worker or a
hired servant, or an owned slave, the responsibility was the same. You should
do your best work as if you were working directly for God and not your master. And
when you get a job someday, this verse is teaching you how to be a good
employee. You should not just work when your boss is watching you, you should
work as if he were watching you all of the time. Because Who is actually your
real boss? God is your real boss. And God is always watching how you work. So
remember, you are not working for a boss, you are working for God. And He is
always watching how you work.
