Matthew 4:18-20

JESUS AND FISHERMENMatthew 4:18-20 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. Jesus called two brothers to follow Him. Jesus wanted to train these two fishermen to be fishers of men. That’s a little different. So, why do you catch men and how do you catch men? Well the why is simple. The Bible tells us that all men are sinners and in need of a Savior. The Bible also tells us that men like their sinning. No one wants to be good – it is way more fun to get into trouble than it is to be good. But when you get into trouble, there are consequences. Consequences are the punishment that we get for the naughtiness that we do. And as always, the consequences for the sin are worse than the fun of the sin. And that is why we need to fish for men. We need to rescue them from their sin. Jesus had to teach his followers how to be clever and to catch men and to free them from their sin. That is the how. And we should be like Jesus’ followers. We should prepare and study the Bible and do the best that we can to catch men and to free them from eternal separation from God. I guess you could say that we catch and release them. From their sin, that is.
