Today I went on a field trip with my nine-year-old grandson,
Bennett, and his mother, and Bennett’s third grade class at Grace Academy. I asked my daughter if we were riding the
bus. She said emphatically, “No!” I looked puzzled, so she replied, “That’s a
rookie idea.” She went on, “Last fall we
went to the museum of Appalachia near Knoxville. All of the boys bought kazoos at the gift
shop and I listened to kazoos for two hours all the way home. We are NOT riding the bus.” I wisely rode in the car with my daughter for
two hours. When we got to Huntsville, we
began our chaperoning.
