I was in Kohl’s the other day waiting in line at the customer service counter to return an item for my wife. I absentmindedly picked up a tube of hand cream and looked at it. In bold letters it read, “HAND FOOD.” I chuckled and read the label. At the top it read, “The most astonishing hand cream ever? You decide.” A little bold, don’t you think? I continued to read the ingredients: Shea butter, Macadamia oil, and marshmallow. Wait, what?! Marshmallow? I could understand Shea butter and Macadamia oil in a hand cream, but rubbing marshmallow all over your hands?! That’s craziness. I recall campfires and marshmallows roasting on sticks. Smores are great snacks, but the stickiness of the marshmallows is unforgettable. And to think of rubbing marshmallow all over your hands?! Advertisement is supposed to make you want to buy the product, not drive you away. Hey, that’s the way it is in the Christian life. Are you a good example of a Christian (like the Shea butter and Macadamia oil), or are you a poor example of a Christian (like the marshmallow)? Solomon said in Proverbs 8:33, “Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.” If we listen to the good Lord, we will be wise; if we don’t listen to the good Lord, … well, it would be like washing our hands in marshmallow cream. Not very smart, right?!
