Helpless

I had a pagan friend years ago ask me, “Where in the Bible does it say: God helps those who help themselves?”  I had to tell him that his quote was not from the Bible, but from Ben Franklin.  Actually, if you think that you can help yourself, God can’t help you because God helps the helpless.  Isaiah said in Isaiah 40:29-31, “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”  Powerful verses for helpless people.  Hey, have you come to the end of your possibilities?  Has your money run out?  Have you had a tragic medical diagnosis?  Do you have children that are out of control?  Is your spouse threatening to leave you?  Take heart!  Your kind of problems are the ones that God specializes in!  God stands ready to help because He is the God of the helpless!
