This morning, my wife and I got into the car to go to dialysis. It was chilly, but not really cold, a typical spring morning. The sky was clear and dark as it is at 5 am. But as I backed the car out of the driveway, I saw the waning crescent moon low in the eastern sky. The moon would be a dark new moon in a couple of days with only stars to light the night sky. I remembered a discussion that I had with a coworker at Mueller Iron Foundry in 1976, many years ago. He said that he didn’t believe that astronauts had landed on the moon. He said that he had been to Arizona, and that the “moonscape” seen on the TV screen looked just like Arizona. He thought that the government was scamming us all. I tried to reason with him about the round earth seen from the spaceship and the astronauts moving about in reduced gravity on the moon, but he wouldn’t budge. He wouldn’t believe that Apollo 11 had landed on the moon; they were just in Arizona. Hey, sometimes we fall for Satan’s lies. We believe that what God says is just too good to be true. We see God’s truth right in the Bible, but we just can’t bring ourselves to believe. Paul said in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Hey, we can’t work our way into heaven. The work has already been done by Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. All that is left for us to do is to trust in Jesus and believe in Him. Hey, don’t fall for Satan’s lies. Trust God. He is trustworthy. Really.
