Fake Flowers

I like to sit on my back deck and watch the birds.  It is so relaxing.  I have two bird feeders filled with black oil sunflower seed, a suet cake holder, and a hummingbird feeder.  We have many birds around the feeders, but only one hummingbird at the hummingbird feeder.  That’s because the one hummingbird chases away any other hummingbird that attempts to come near his private feeder.  And when he hovers at the feeder, he goes around to each of the four fake flowers on the feeder to take a sip.  Silly bird!  He doesn’t realize that each flower is connected to the same reservoir!  But he still tries each flower to see if the nectar is any better at the next fake flower.  Hey, we are exactly like that hummingbird.  We try this new thing and that new fad to see if any is more exciting.  We just don’t realize that nothing satisfies like the dear Lord above.  James said in James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”  If you receive anything good, you can know that it’s from the good Lord.  He loves you and gives you exactly what you need.  No more but no less.  Hey, don’t go from one fake flower to another looking for something better.  Jesus is all that you need.
