In 1994, Kathy and I took eight seniors from Calvary Christian School to Venezuela for a mission trip. We flew from Atlanta to Miami to Caracas, and on to Barquisimeto where we met Carlos and Susan Arce. They were great hosts, and we had a great time with their family. I preached and we worked on the building. Brother Carlos had a great group of people with a growing work, so they were constantly adding to their building. The men were forming up to pour concrete and were using wide boards that had been cut from the jungle. Concrete forming boards are usually poor quality lumber, because they are used and then scrapped, but I was shocked to see them using mahogany boards for concrete forms! It almost hurt to see large mahogany boards covered in concrete and thrown aside! In Venezuela, mahogany is common and is used like pine is used here in America. I was reminded of the description of heaven by John in Revelation 21. John wrote in Revelation 21:18, “And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.” Some day soon, we will see that beautiful city where God had paved the streets with gold! And we will be amazed at the beauty of God’s wonderful abode! Hey, are you on your way to that beautiful city? Have you accepted God’s free gift of salvation? If you haven’t, right now would be a great time to accept God’s gift of salvation. And we can both walk those streets of gold and enjoy what God has prepared for us … forever and forever!
