Water has three forms (technically four, but we won’t consider “plasma”), solid, liquid and gas. When liquid water is boiled, it expands 1,700 times. An expansion of that magnitude would certainly qualify as an explosion, if it happened in a closed container. And when you pop popcorn, that’s exactly what happens. Unpopped popcorn is impossible to chew on because it is too hard, inside and out. You just can’t do anything with it. But when popcorn is heated to 212° Fahrenheit (100° Celsius), the moisture in it explodes 1,700 times and what is on the inside comes out, and it is a beautiful thing. In fact, the inside expands so much that you can hardly see the outside anymore. The popcorn becomes fluffy and edible … with a little butter and salt, it becomes downright delicious! And so it is with our spiritual conversion. The Holy Spirit transforms a hard useless sinner into a sweet, delectable Christian. Paul said in II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Hey, have you been transformed by the Holy Spirit? If not, you are a hardened useless soul in need of a change. Why not let Jesus Christ make you into a new creature. And today would be a great day to do it!
