One of our neighbors bought a giant, twelve-foot skeleton for Halloween decoration last fall. He was proud of it for a week, but evidently, this neighbor had no place to store the twelve-foot skeleton, because it has been up for six months waving at us every time that we drive by. My wife thinks it is creepy, and I think it’s tacky. The neighbor put a giant Santa hat on it at Christmas, and the skeleton was holding a string of shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day. You know, a skeleton can scare you, but it cannot harm you, because it is dead. And this particular one is just plastic painted to look real. But even if it were real, it still couldn’t harm you. Hey, your past may haunt you and it may discourage you, but your past is over, it is done, and the past cannot harm you. Hey, let go of your past! Don’t let it discourage you. Don’t let it ruin your future. Satan likes to use your past failures to defeat you, but those sins are like my neighborhood skeleton: it scares me, but it can’t harm me. Hey, look forward to a life of service with Jesus in victory and in power! Don’t let Satan defeat you because of your past. Let it go. It is forgiven and it is under the blood of Jesus Christ! God said in Jeremiah 31:34 that “…I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” Hallelujah! your sins are forgiven! So, when Satan reminds you of your past, remind him of his future. Think about it.
