Pretend you are on an airplane getting ready to take
off. The pilot speaks over the intercom,
“We are getting ready to take off, and I just wanted to inform you that my goal
is to fly this airplane so that we will never crash … most of the time.” Would you stay on that airplane, or get off (with
all of the other passengers)? But why is
it that we are satisfied with living a clean life … most of the time? We only sin just a little - not too
much. Peter said it best in I Peter
1:16, “… Be ye holy; for I am holy.” We
should be as holy as the Lord is holy.
But the problem is, we can’t. It
is only through the power of Jesus Christ that we can even begin to live a
victorious Christian life. James 4:8, “Draw
nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and
purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
So, we are hopeless sinners. Our
only hope is in Jesus Christ, and in Him alone!
