My daughter and son-in-law got me an amaryllis for
Christmas. It was covered in red wax,
decorated with sparkles, and sitting on a wire stand. The amaryllis is a bulb grown to brighten the
dreary winter days. It needs
nothing. No water, no soil, and no
sun. Within a week, a green shoot
sprouted. And in three more weeks, three
beautiful red blooms popped out on top of the foot-high green stalk. With other green shoots coming out of the
bulb, there is the promise of more stalks and blooms. The amaryllis reminds me of the Lord. He needs nothing from us. He doesn’t need our work; He doesn’t need our
help; He doesn’t need our assistance: God is self-sufficient. As Paul told the Athenians on Mars’ Hill in
Act 17:24&25, “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that
he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing
he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things.” The Creator of everything doesn’t need us; we
need Him! Hey, Let the all-sufficient
God be your focus today. Like my
amaryllis bulb, enjoy God’s beauty.
Serve Him, and someday, you’ll be glad that you did!
