Job 2:11-13 Now
when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they
came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the
Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together
to come to mourn with him and to comfort him. And when they lifted up their
eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they
rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none
spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great. Job had
three friends who came to visit him when they heard that Job was in in trouble.
In the olden days, they had a curious habit when they were in distress. Do you
remember what Mordecai did when Haman was intending evil for the Jews? He did
the same as Job’s three friends. First they tore up their clothes and then they
threw dust up into the air right over their heads. Sort of odd, wouldn’t you
say? And then they sat down with Job there in the dirt. And they sat, and they
sat, and they sat. They didn’t say a single word for seven days! They just sat
there and let Job know that they were there with him in his troubles. They were
good friends, but they didn’t know why Job was going through all of this
trouble. They thought that they knew, but they didn’t. Do you have a good
friend? Do you think that they would be with you if you had some terrible thing
happen to you? Would you be a good friend and stay with your
friend who was going through some difficult time? Think about it.
