Matthew 7:13,14
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way,
that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because
strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few
there be that find it. In life, we have two choices and two roads to pick
from: one was easy and wide and the other was narrow and hard. The nice, easy
road led to destruction but the narrow, hard road led to life everlasting. And
because the wide road was so easy to travel on, most people took that road. But
the narrow steep road was hard to climb. Few people had the determination to
climb up the steep, narrow road. But the narrow road led to everlasting life.
So what is Jesus saying with this illustration? Doing the right thing is often
hard, but doing the wrong thing often easy. And because the right way is hard,
few people take the effort to follow that narrow road. But, on the other hand,
doing the sinful, worldly things are easy, so there are many people who go that
way. The worldly road is well-traveled and filled with people who will go right
along with you if you choose the worldly way. So, as always, the choice is up
to you. On the one hand the choice is God and righteousness with few people
going with you. But on the other hand the choice is selfishness and worldliness
with many, many people going right along with you. But one road leads to life
everlasting while the other road leads to destruction. So . . . the choice is
up to you. But when you choose the hard way or the easy way, you will
automatically be choosing life or destruction. Choose carefully. Always look
way down the road.
