II Corinthians
6:14-16 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what
fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath
light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part
hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of
God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I
will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall
be my people. In Bible times the farmers used two oxen or two horses, or
two donkeys to plow with. That gave him twice the pulling power. But often the
farmer had two unmatched animals. One was stronger than the other. Or one had
longer, more powerful legs than the other. Or one could outlast the other. The
stronger animal ended up pulling more than his share of the work load. It
wasn’t fair. And so it is with a Christian and an unbeliever. How can they get
along? One loves God and the other doesn’t. One wants to give money to
missionaries and the other wants to spend money on beer and cigarettes. One
wants to go to church and the other wants to go to the lake. Christians do not
have much in common with their unsaved acquaintances. They have different likes
and dislikes. We have more in common with God than we do with our unsaved
neighbors. And that’s the way it should be.
