Today at 2 PM, I have a funeral to attend. Robert L. Humphreys 1934-2019, a dear friend
at church passed away this week. He was
85 years old and had been a pastor/missionary for many years. Brother Bob had a great personality and was
loved by everyone that he came into contact with. He had a New York Yankees baseball hat he
wore everywhere. When asked about the
hat, he would tell the story of Micky Mantle and Bobby Richardson, two famous
Yankee ball players. Theirs was an
unusual friendship. Micky Mantle was a
hard-living, hard-drinking superhero and Bobby Richardson was a clean-living
homebody church-goer. After liver
failure, a transplant, and liver cancer, Bobby visited Mickey in the hospital,
once again sharing Bible verses with him.
Mickey Mantle trusted Christ as his Savior only days before his death in
1995. “Thank you, Brother Bob, for always
sharing the Mickey Mantle salvation story with everyone that you came in
contact with. Thank you for the great
example that you were. Enjoy your
heavenly reward.”
