Things aren’t going to get better; they are going to get
worse. That’s not being pessimistic,
that’s just how it is. Morals are worse
now than when I was a kid. And morals
were worse when I was a kid than when my parents were kids. Things just get worse and worse. Paul told Timothy in II Timothy 3:13, “But
evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being
deceived.” So what was Paul’s advice to
young Timothy? Paul went on to say in
verse 14, “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast
been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.” To put it in today’s words, “Timothy, just
keep on doing what is right.” The story
is told of a man touring a brass foundry.
He saw an old man polishing a huge brass door. He asked the old man, “How do you know when
you’re finished?” The old man replied,
“Oh I don’t. I just keep polishing the
door until they come and take it away.”
We must just keep doing what we should be doing until the Lord comes and
takes us away. Good advice. No matter what happens in the world; no
matter how bad the world gets, just keep doing right.
