Eric Liddell, the main character in the movie, “Chariots of
Fire” was a famous 400 meter runner. A
reporter asked him his key to winning the 400 meter race. Liddell said, “I run the first 200 meters as
fast as I can and run the last 200 meters faster - with the help of God.” The last 50 meters was when he won the
race. Hey, do we run the race with the
help of God, or do we run in our own strength?
The writer of the book of Hebrews said in Hebrews 12:1, “… let us lay
aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run
with patience the race that is set before us.”
Whatever race the good Lord has set before us, we must run it with
purposeful strides. We must focus on the
goal … and do our best.
