Orphanage in Ruşi, Romania

1990 was my first trip to Romania.  I met Brother Florin Doboş in Haţeg and became life-ling friends.  Brother Florin told us of an orphanage in the village of Ruşi, up the road about 10 kilometers.  The ladies of our church in Chattanooga had given us a bagful of stuffed toys to give to children, so I got them ready.  That afternoon, we visited the orphanage in Ruşi, and I will never forget the experience.  The workers knew we were coming and had the children all clean and orderly.  We handed out Little Debbie snack cakes and the children were excited.  But they had never had any food wrapped in plastic and couldn’t bite through the wrappers.  We had to show them how to remove the wrapper first.  Brother Ron produced balloons, but the children began kicking them around like soccer balls on the gravel parking lot and they burst.  We had kids crying because their “soccer balls” were destroyed.  The workers said that it was time for their afternoon nap, so they went inside.  Brother Ron and Pastor Roth had gone inside and put a stuffed toy on each of their little beds.  We had 57 toys and there were 56 children!  Do you think God cares for orphans?  I do.  David said in Psalm 68:4&5, “Sing unto God, sing praises to his name, … A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.”  Yes, God cares for orphans.  Oh, and by the way, God cares for you.
