In 1998 we visited Pastor Petru Vezentan in Satu Mare, Romania. Pastor Peter lived in the city but had several churches in the outlying villages. He didn’t have a car, but used busses, a bicycle, and hitch hiked to visit his people. Kathy and I stayed with him in his apartment while the rest of our group stayed at the vacant home of a church member who was working out of the country. We had meals at Pastor Peter’s house. He had a ministry in the state prison and arranged for us to speak in their chapel. The prisons in Romania were deplorable, but so were many homes in the rural villages. Nothing new. Pastor Peter said that the prisons would become overcrowded, and every few years, politicians would declare amnesty and release all of the prisoners. Many men would make a new beginning, but most would go right back to their old ways. There would be a few months of terror until the recidivists would be rounded up and put back into prison. One man was born again in prison under Pastor Peter’s preaching and lived not far from Satu Mare. One evening, Pastor Peter and I took him some Scriptures that he had requested. He had a burden to share Jesus Christ with his family and friends. This former prisoner had been changed by the power of the Gospel! What a blessing to help him share the Good News with his family and friends. Paul said in II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” What a blessing to see a changed life! Hey, are you a changed person? If you are the same old sinner, you need a Savior. Accept the Gospel while you can before it’s too late. Message me and we’ll talk.
