I was in the second grade with Miss Seals as my teacher. Yes, we thought her name was extremely funny. We had a huge playground with a big slide, monkey bars, parallel bars, and a jungle gym. There were two softball fields because the single backstop worked for back-to-back softball diamonds. One day we came in from recess and one kid was sick. She went to the principal’s office where the school secretary doubled as the school nurse. Evidently, the farmer with an adjacent field was spraying insecticide and some of the spray had drifted to our playground, and the kid was sick from the insecticide. The secretary sent the girl home. It ten minutes the secretary came to our classroom and whispered to Miss Seals and then asked, “If anyone is sick, raise your hand.” Of course, we all raised our hands. The secretary left, called our parents, they picked us up from school, and we had the afternoon off! Years later, I realized what a dumb question that was to ask. Of course, we would all be sick! Duh! Solomon knew children too, and said in Proverbs 22:15, “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child …” Solomon also knew the solution to get the foolishness out. I’ll let you read the rest of the verse to find out how Solomon suggested to get the foolishness out. And remember, he was the wisest man to have ever lived. Hey, teach/train your child while you can, or they will turn out like me. Hmmm …
