Have you heard of the Golden Rule? You know, the rule that Jesus said that we should live by? Jesus said in Matthew 7:12, “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them …” I heard an interesting point on this Golden Rule at church Sunday evening. Our pastor said that the Golden Rule is a “Savings Plan” not a “Mortgage” to borrow against. He is right! Jesus didn’t say to treat people the way that they treated you (after-the-fact); Jesus said to treat people the way that you want to be treated (before they do anything to you). You treat them first, and they will reciprocate your kindness. So, the onus is upon us. We must be Christ-like first and others should respond in like manner. And if they don’t, well that’s their problem. We can’t control them; we can only control what we do. And we can stand before the Lord with a clear conscience, because we have followed the Golden Rule.
