Conservators at the National Galleries of Scotland were taking an X-ray of Vincent van Gogh’s “Head of a Peasant Woman” when, to their surprise, they found the piercing gaze of the artist himself staring back at them. On the back of the canvas, a self-portrait of van Gogh was hidden behind cardboard and glue! This painted-over portrait is one of five self-portraits done by Van Goh in the 1870’s. He was so poor that he often painted on both sides of the canvas. He never dreamed that the world would be anxious to see even his practice works. Hey, do you have any secrets lurking underneath? Are there things that you have painted over, not wanting the world to see? Always remember that Jesus sees everything, Jesus knows everything, and that Jesus still loves you! God sent His Son to die for those ugly sins that you think are covered up. And God will remove those wicked sins if you but come to Him in repentance. Jesus said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Hey, trust Jesus to take away your secret sins. You’ll be glad that you did.
