Misappropriated

Moses negotiated with Pharaoh to let the Children of Israel go free.  Plague after plague came upon the Egyptians until the final one: death of the firstborn in each family.  But the day before, God told the Hebrews to borrow gold and silver from their Egyptian masters.  And God gave them favor.  This gold and silver was their payment for 400 years of bondage.  And in wee hours of that first Passover morning, as Pharaoh held his dying son, he summoned Moses and told him to get out of his sight.  Leave!  Be gone!  The Children of Israel were finally free.  And after the miracle of the Red sea, while Moses was on Mt. Sinai, the Children of Israel rebelled and degenerated into idolatry.  Those same gold and silver earrings and amulets that God had convinced the Egyptians to give to the Children of Israel were used to make the golden calf!  What a slap in the Lord’s face (so to speak).  That gold and silver that should have been used in the tabernacle was hijacked for wicked uses!  Hey, how often do we use God’s good gifts for our own selfish uses?!  Paul reminds us in Romans 2:4, “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”  God is good but we are so forgetful!  The good things that we enjoy are simply gifts from the Lord above!  Hey, today, let’s give God the thanks that He deserves!
