Chlidish or Childlike?

There are some words in English that just don’t make sense.  If the plural of “mouse” is “mice”, is the plural of “house” _____?  If the plural of “goose” is “geese”, is the plural of “moose” _____?  If you are acting like a “child”, you are “childish”, but if you are acting like an “adult” are you _____?  Jesus said in Luke 18:16&17, “… Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.”  Jesus clearly commanded us to be childlike, but many Christians are childish.  And that is very different.  Hey, are you childlike or childish?  Think about it.

Craftsman Water Hose

Years ago, I had a dear friend who finished sheet rock.  Joel K. was particular about his tools.  He had a specific brush to clean out his mud pan with, and he used a heavy-duty Craftsman water hose.  He told me that over the years, he had wasted money buying several cheap hoses, and finally bought a Craftsman hose, which was guaranteed forever.  Joel said that he had paid more money for several cheap vinyl hoses (that ruptured) than he did for the expensive Craftsman rubber hose.  Good thinking, Mr. Joel!  So, I took his advice and bought two fifty-foot Craftsman water hoses.  That was in 1985, and I am still using those water hoses thirty-six years later!  My dad said, “If the item you are buying needs to last longer than one year, buy the best that you can afford.  If the item that you are buying needs only a year or less, buy the cheapest that you can find.”  That was advice that Joel would have approved.  Hey, what about your eternal life?  Would you like to have a guarantee that lasts forever?  Then trust in Jesus.  He has a guarantee that is out of this world!  Jesus is the best you can ever find!  Just like Craftsman tools, Jesus will NEVER disappoint you.  Trust Jesus, and you’ll never be sorry that you did.

Opening Jelly Jars

My wife used to give me jars to open for her.  Now that I am seventy-two, I give the jars to my grandsons.  The other day I was struggling to open a jelly jar.  I tried wetting my palms to get a better grip.  I tapped on the jar lid with the but end of a case knife to loosen it a little.  I was finally able to pop it loose.  Hey, I don’t have the muscles that I used to have.  I weigh the same … but the bulk is leaving my arms and legs and migrating to my waist.  Oh well …  Hey, we are spiritually weak without the dear Lord.  Paul said in Romans 5:6, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.”  When it comes to our salvation to take us to heaven, we are hopeless and helpless.  We just can’t do it ourselves.  We need Jesus!  We need a Savior who can help our weaknesses.  Verse 8 sums it up: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  The good Lord stand ready to help those who call upon His name.  If you realize that you are needy and helpless, take heart: Jesus is ready to help.  He can do it!  Yes, He can!
