I John 3:14,15 We
know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He
that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a
murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. We
already talked about the Jesus test. Do you remember what the
Jesus test is? If you love Jesus, you have everlasting life. If you don’t love
Jesus, you don’t have everlasting life. In our verses for today, we have a
second test for salvation: the brother test. Our verses say that we
know
that we are saved if we love other Christians. In Matthew 22, a lawyer was
trying to trip up Jesus and catch Him in a mistake. He asked Jesus what was the
greatest commandment. The lawyer wrongly thought that whichever commandment
Jesus said was the most important one, there were nine others that Jesus would
have left out. But Jesus had this lawyer figured out. Jesus said the greatest
commandment was to Love God and the second one was to love your neighbor as
yourself. Actually all ten of the commandments could be summed up in those two.
Love God and love each other. And here in I John we have the two tests Of a
Christian. Can you remember the two tests? Do you love Jesus, and do you love
your Christian brother. If you can pass these two tests, you are a born-again
Christian and on your way to heaven.
