Ruth 3:1-4 Then
Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for
thee, that it may be well with thee? And
now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he
winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor. Wash thyself therefore, and
anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but
make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and
drinking. And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place
where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee
down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do. By now, Naomi had Boaz
figured out. She knew that Boaz had his eye on Ruth and would like to marry her
and restore Elimelech’s inheritance. But Boaz was moving too slow for Naomi. He
needed a little push. That night, Boaz would camp out at the threshing floor
guarding the harvest. So Naomi told Ruth what to do. She was to clean up, put
on a fresh dress, and wait for Boaz to go to sleep. Then, when he was snoring,
Ruth was to sneak in and lay down at his feet. The rest would be up to Boaz. He
would know what to do. I can imagine how excited Naomi was that night! She
could hardly sleep! She couldn’t wait to see if Boaz would propose to Ruth! God
was taking care of these two poor women in a wonderful way!
