Romans10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved. Let me tell you a story about a little six year old
boy. He was at a revival meeting several years ago at a small country church. The
pastor was preaching and it was toward the end of the service. Brother
Blackburn had given the invitation and the congregation was singing. Brother
Blackburn had offered to talk to anyone who might want to trust Jesus Christ as
their Savior. The little boy wanted to be forgiven of his sins that night but
was too scared to walk to the front of the room. His friend kept pleading with
him, but the boy was just too fearful. The preacher saw the commotion and
walked back to them as the church kept singing. He asked the boy if he wanted
to be saved. The boy nodded his head. The old preacher sat down and pulled out
a quarter. He said, “I am going to give you this quarter.” And with that, he
held out his open hand. The boy hesitated. But the preacher insisted. “Go on,
take it. It’s a free gift.” The little boy finally took the quarter. Then the
preacher explained, “That is how you get saved. You see, salvation is a free
gift offered to us by God. But we have to take it. God’s salvation is not ours
until we take it.” He went on. “Just like I offered you the quarter, God offers
you salvation. And just like the quarter wasn’t yours until you took it,
eternal life isn’t yours until you ask God and receive His gift of salvation.”
The preacher finished by saying, “Will you pray and accept God’s gift of
salvation tonight?” The little boy nodded, and then bowed his head and prayed accepting
God’s gift of salvation. That was 59 years ago when I trusted Jesus Christ as
my personal Savior! What a wonderful night it was!
