Exodus 40:16,34,38
Thus did Moses: according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he. Then a
cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled
the tabernacle. For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and
fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout
all their journeys. After Moses and the people had built the Tabernacle, God
was pleased. Everyone knew that He was pleased because God’s glory came and
dwelled in the Tabernacle. God is a Spirit and we can’t see Him. But God gave a
visible sign of His presence in the Tabernacle. What was this visible sign in
the daytime? That’s right: a towering cloud. And what was the visible sign of
God’s presence at night? Right again: a tall column of fire at night. But
today, Israel does not have a Tabernacle. Israel does not have a Temple. Today,
as followers of Jesus Christ, we do not have a cloud or fire to follow. So,
where does the Spirit of God dwell today? That’s right, the Spirit of God
dwells within us. When we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior, the Holy Spirit
of God comes and lives within our hearts. He is with us and guides us in the
right way. God gave us a beautiful picture of His Holy Spirit in the book of
Exodus to show us that He is with us always. And He truly is!
