Jonah 1:15,17 So
they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: ... Now the LORD had
prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the
fish three days and three nights. Wow! What a story! Even though Jonah was
running from God, God was still working things out for his benefit. God still
had a job for Jonah to do, and God was softening Jonah up to make him willing
to do God’s job. Can you imagine Jonah’s fear and surprise? Swallowed alive by
a HUGE fish! As that giant fish was swimming in the ocean for three days, what
do you think Jonah was doing? The very next verse says that Jonah was praying.
And Jonah was not just praying, He was crying out to Almighty God in
repentance. But God didn’t let Jonah out of the fish just yet. God let Jonah
sweat it out for three whole days! And while Jonah was praying, the great fish
was making straight for the seacoast of Nineveh. God was delivering Jonah back
to where he should have been all along: on his way to preach to Nineveh.
