James 2:17

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Wait a minute! I thought we were saved by faith alone! Well we are. But James is talking about true faith. Remember James 1:22? We must be doers and not just hearers only. James says that what we do demonstrates our heart. So what we do shows what we are inside. We are not saved by works, but if we have faith, we will do good works. We are saved by faith alone, but if we have faith we will do good works. If we have faith in God, we will show that we want to obey God.
