Judges 3:27,28 And
it came to pass, when [Ehud] was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain
of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and
he before them. And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the LORD hath
delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand … Once again, God had to
deliver rebellious Israel into the hands of Eglon, king of Moab. Eglon and his
confederates, the Ammonites and Amalekites, ruled over Israel for several
years. God commissioned Ehud to assassinate Eglon to rescue Israel. Now Eglon
was a huge man and couldn’t get around very well. Ehud came to his palace with
gifts and presents. After his presentation, Ehud whispered that he had a secret
to tell the king. Eglon was excited and told him to just hold on for a minute.
Eglon sent everyone out and eagerly waited for the secret message. When all of
the servants were outside and they were alone, Ehud drew out his dagger and
gave Eglon the message from God! Eglon fell down dead. Ehud locked the door and
escaped out of a window, down a trellis, and off to safety. Eglon’s servants
waited and waited. They tried the door, but it was locked, and they were
nervous to interrupt their king. But the longer they waited, the more
embarrassed they became. When they finally forced open the door and found their
king dead, Ehud had made his escape and was well on his way to Israel. Ehud
blew the trumpet, gathered the army, and defeated the enemies of God. God
watched over Ehud and gave him wisdom.
