Wrong Way

The year after I graduated, a student at our high school was killed in a terrible automobile accident.  Larry Friar’s little sports car was hit head-on by a driver going the wrong way on the interstate.  Somehow, the driver had made a wrong turn onto the exit ramp and was driving into oncoming traffic when he hit Larry head on.  Part of the tragedy was that the accident could have been avoided.  If you look behind you on the interstates today, you will often see big, red signs saying, “Wrong Way”.  They’re posted on the backs of many of the “right way” signs to warn drivers that they are going the “wrong way”.  Hey, have you ever been warned that you are going the wrong way in life?  Perhaps a dear friend had confronted you about a weakness in your character.  You could have been headed down the wrong path toward financial ruin.  You could have been warned about a toxic relationship.  Hey, don’t take those warnings lightly.  A friend will confront another friend only if it is absolutely necessary.  Solomon said in Proverbs 27:5&6, “Open rebuke is better than secret love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend …”  Don’t just blow off the warning of a dear friend.  Listen to their concerns and carefully consider them.  They care about you.  Ponder your ways and take a moment to think.  Then take their advice.  You’ll be glad that you did.
