Last Saturday, I heard an astounding bit of news on the radio. The British government commissioned a year-long study in 2016 into the prevalence of loneliness in the UK. According to the report, 9 million Britons suffer from loneliness - 14% of the entire population. Among the more vulnerable, such as the elderly and those living with disabilities, the rates are much higher. This has led, in 2017, to the establishment of the Ministry of Loneliness in England. This is a totally secular response to a deep need of every individual on earth. We all need to belong. What a sad commentary on the needs of people and on the simple solution: the love of Jesus Christ. Which leads to another problem: we, as Christians, need to be involved in the lives of our neighbors, acquaintances, and those that we come into contact with every day. Hey, they need help, and we are the only ones in the position to give it to them. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus Himself has promised to give rest to those who are burdened down with the cares of life. Let’s share this good news with someone today.
