What’s in a name? Tonight on television, I heard Mark Levin called “The Great One”. That’s a little pompous, isn’t it? How did Levin get that nickname? Did he call himself “The Great One”, or did others call him “The Great One”? Either way, Levin’s nickname is just over-the-top. And what about “Death Valley”? Doesn’t that conjure up a terribly foreboding place? On the way to our house here in Ringgold, there is a sharp curve going downhill that is called “Dead Man’s Curve”. I have personally helped two people out of the guardrail on that curve. Fortunately, they weren’t dead - they were just injured (but their vehicles were dead). When I was young, everyone called me “Bubbie”. I always wanted a better nickname like “Killer” or “Bruiser”. But you can’t choose your nickname (except maybe Mark Levin). Hey, there is a name that is the most important name that is known to anyone. You probably know that name. Paul said in Philippians 2:10&11, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” The name of Jesus is a powerful name. It has the power to eradicate sin and open the gate to eternal life in heaven. And that’s a powerful name. Hey, Jesus really is The Great One.
