Doing the right thing is hard. It’s hard to take a Saturday that you could be out golfing and go shopping with your wife. But a marriage takes time. And raising kids is hard. You can’t come home and kick back in your recliner, because you’re still on duty as a father. It takes an investment of time at ball games, cheerleading practice, guitar lessons, and after-school football practices. It’s hard to do right by your grandparents. You have to fix their DDR, set up their internet, program their remotes, and listen to the same stories over and over again. Hey, doing the right thing is hard. But NOT doing the right thing is even harder. It’s much harder to pay alimony and child support. It’s even harder to only see your children one weekend a month. It’s much harder to have to bail your son out of jail. It’s much harder to get that phone call from your daughter that she is pregnant and not married. It’s much harder when a grandparent passes away, and you hadn’t visited them often enough to know that they were even sick. Solomon said in Proverbs 1:5, “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.” Doing the right thing is hard, but NOT doing right thing is harder still. Hey, do right. You’ll be glad that you did.
