In 1994, we were in Romania while the world cup was going on. It was hosted by America which made the games late, late at night in Romania. Often the games were in the wee hours of the morning. Pastor Florin had a television, and some of the boys stayed up with him and Cipri, his son, to watch the matches. I remember one night (or morning), Romania scored a goal. I heard the boys downstairs yell, “Gooooooal!” and throughout the village of Haţeg, I heard echoes of “Gooooooal!” I didn’t know that all of the houses were watching the match, but I should have known, because the world cup is held once every four years and is a big deal! It was at that moment that I realized the solidarity in the village. Hey, often we are like that with our prayers to the Lord. We feel all alone as we pray for a particular need, not realizing that many friends and family are praying with us for the need also. We just never hear “Gooooooal!” to know that other prayers are being prayed. John said in I John 5:14&15, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” What great confidence that we have when we pray to the dear Lord above! And how good to know that others are praying to the Lord about our needs too! Hey, the next time that you pray for a brother or sister, text them or message them on facebook. That will be your echo of “Gooooooal!” to let them know that you are praying with them.
