Forty years ago, a friend built a log cabin, and I helped. It was more of a house than a cabin because of the care that went into the building of it. He used hewn timbers, and he had me build the fireplace. The fireplace was made of reclaimed brick with a custom double-walled fire box. Two vents below the hearth drew cold air into the fire box behind the fireplace, and two vents above the mantle blew warmed air out. It was a clever arraignment, but not quite as clever as another feature. Behind the left vent on the floor, Mr. D. had me stack up bricks making a false back in the chase. Behind the stacked bricks was room enough for a hidden cavity about the size of a shoebox. Only Mr. D. and I knew about the secret hiding place. He has no children and his wife has already passed on. When I hear that Mr. D. has passed on, I plan to find out what he had hidden in that secret hiding place. But did you know that there is a greater secret than this?! Paul spoke of it in Romans 16:25-27, “Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, … To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.” To Abraham, Moses, Daniel, and all of the Old Testament patriarchs, salvation in Jesus Christ was a great mystery: God’s best kept secret of the ages. But to us, it is revealed as the power of the Almighty unto our salvation! Wow! What a great secret God has revealed to us! Hey, have you trusted in Jesus Christ as your Savior? Are you privy to this great secret?
