Shampoo

In some ways, I am stingy, but in most ways, I am a reckless spender.  Years ago, I used an expensive shampoo because I thought it was cost effective.  You know, just a little bit of the expensive shampoo goes further than a whole handful of the cheap store brand.  But one day, on a lark, I tested my theory.  The Suave produced almost as much lather as Breck (the old-school expensive shampoo).  So I have been using Suave ever since.  Last week, I was running low, so I stood the shampoo bottle on end so that the last bit would run down near the spout.  Monday, I bought another bottle of my beloved Suave shampoo, ready to put it into action.  But when I took my shower, there was still enough product left to shampoo my scalp and beard.  And Tuesday … and Wednesday!  It seemed like that bottle would never run out!  My shampoo bottle reminded me of the story of the pastor’s widow in II Kings 4:1-7.  Without her husband, she couldn’t pay her creditors, so she came to Elijah for help.  Elijah asked her what assets she had.  She said, “Nothing but a small cruse of oil.”  Elijah told her to borrow vessels from all of her neighbors.  “Borrow not a few!” were the exact words that he used.  Then he told her to pour out the oil into those empty containers.  Soon she had filled all of the containers with oil from that single little bottle!  She told her son to go and get another vessel, but he responded, “That’s all of the containers that we have borrowed.”  And with that, the oil stopped.  Do you think that she wished that she had borrowed a few more vessels?!  Hey, what is the extent of your faith?  Should you have trusted the Lord for more?  Would the dear Lord have blessed you more if you had been more bold?  Think about it.
