Philippians 1:23,24
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with
Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful
for you. Do you know what a strait is? A strait is a narrow area of water
between two land masses. A ship often has to go through a strait in order to
get from the ocean into the safe harbor. But the ship’s captain has to be
careful. If he goes a little to one side, he will crash his ship onto the
shore. But if he goes too much the other way, again, he will crash onto the
other shore. The captain must navigate perfectly between the two banks to make
it through the strait and safely into the harbor. And that was the Apostle
Paul’s dilemma. He wanted to go on to his eternal reward in heaven, but he
wanted to stay on earth and minister to his dear friends in Philippi. As he said,
he was in a strait between two choices. He would have liked to go on to see
Jesus, his dear Savior, but he wanted to stay and teach the people a little
longer. What a wonderful problem. To enjoy teaching dear friends of go on to
meet your Savior! Paul could not go wrong whichever one he chose!
