Romans 15:4

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Suppose I wrote a letter to your mother and told her that I was in Maryland and that I was traveling back to Georgia on Monday. Would that be a deep, dark secret that she would not tell to anyone? No, not really. That might be information that you might like to know. You might be interested in what Granddaddy was doing. But, that letter wasn’t written to you. The letter was written to your mother. But the information could be used by you – you might be interested in knowing what was going on. That’s the way it is in most of the Bible. Most of the Old Testament was written to the Jews. But we can read it and learn what God likes and what God doesn’t like. Much of the New Testament was written to different churches in Asia and Israel. But we can read it to learn what Jesus was telling them. These things were not written to us, but they were written for us - to use.
