Ecclesiastes 7:8
Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof. My, my, but isn’t
that true! It is easier to start a project than to finish that project. Ideas
are good, but to finish what you start is harder. Ideas are easy because they
are only thoughts in your head. But to finish the project takes real work. You
must do
something; not just think about it. You must do the work. It could be
that you want to rearrange your room. But after you have moved the bed and one
dresser, you find that the second dresser will not fit between the closet door
and the hall door. So now you are stuck in the middle of the project and you
don’t know what to do. Or you begin to make a wooden cart to ride on. You get
the wheels from an old wagon. You gather the wood for the body. You have the
rope for the steering and clamps for the axles. But after you cut the boards
for the axle and the seat boards, you discover that you don’t have enough wood for
the length of the cart. You are stuck. You need more wood. The beginning of a
project is exciting, but our verse reminds us that finishing is the most
important. So think, before you start. And then after you have started; finish
the job. Finish the job!
