The Bible is more than a book of tips to help us live better lives. Jesus did not come to leave us a good example of how to live. Christianity is not just one of the world’s great religions. Jesus didn’t come to reform us; He came to redeem us. Most people in our country believe that people need education, money, and opportunities to make better lives for themselves. But what we really need is a new birth in Christ. It’s a difference in our worldview. We are born in sin, grow up sinners and are basically evil to the core. Our only hope is a changed life found only in repentance and faith is Jesus Christ. He alone is our only hope. We can’t do it for ourselves; we need Jesus. Jeremiah boldly said in Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” From education to the arts to public policy, we are all sinners in need of a Savior. We need Jesus. And even after a salvation experience, we still have a wicked human nature to fight against. The apostle Paul, one of the best Christians to have ever lived, said in Romans 7:19, “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.” Life is a constant struggle. We need the dear Lord to move in our lives. We need Him every day!
