I Peter 5:5
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be
subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the
proud, and giveth grace to the humble. We are in the last chapter of I
Peter, so the old apostle is giving his last minute instructions. He has
already spoken to the pastors and now he is speaking to the younger people of the
church. He reminds them to listen to their elders – the “gray hairs”. Older
church members are usually wiser because they have lived longer and gone
through more experiences in life. But Peter reminds all of us that we should be
respectful to each other. Peter uses the word, humble. Humble means not
to be snooty, but to put others first. And finally, the apostle Peter reminds
us all that God gives grace to those who are humble, but God resists those who
are proud. I always want God on my side, don’t you? So let’s not be proud and
snooty. Let’s be humble and kind to others.
