II Peter 1:2,4
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of
Jesus our Lord, Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious
promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having
escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. Peter reminds us
that grace and peace come to us by Jesus Christ. As we learn more and more
about God, we get closer to Him. It is interesting that whenever the grace
and peace
of God are mentioned, that grace always comes first. That is
because we must experience God’s saving grace before we can experience
God’s peace. And the more that we learn about God, His grace and peace are not
added to us, they are multiplied to us! God always gives us more and more of
His blessings. We can never get ahead of God. And it is because of God’s
goodness that we receive His great and precious promises. But they are
exceeding great and precious promises! God’s goodness is always over the top!
He gives us more and more and more and ... well, you get the picture! But Peter
tells us that there is a reason that God gives us His grace and peace and
precious promises. It isn’t just because God is good to us and likes us. God
wants to make us like Him. And someday, when we get to heaven, we will be
sharing in God’s authority. We will be like Him and we will be with Him. And
that is the purpose for God’s goodness.
